About

IMG_1477I’m Suus, and I really like to cook. In my daily life I am a PhD researcher and teacher at a university, where my focus is on feminist cultural studies and (feminist) philosophies of science. But at night I transform into some kind of housewife/master chef crossover. I forget about all abstract theories and complicated notions and just focus on making delicious food.

Which is not to say that I don’t have theories about food. I do! It’s just that they are based only on my own experiences, which probably aren’t generalizable. It’s not my intention to dump all of those here, but I’m sure they’ll reveal themselves in my posts.

When it comes to food I will eat pretty much anything except for bananas, which have been the bane of my palatial existence since I was 3 months old. Not a recipe follower, I usually cook based on taste. I love trying to figure out how to recreate dishes I’ve tasted while on vacation or at restaurants. I also enjoy searching for that one key ingredient that can boost the flavor of an otherwise unpretentious dish. I’m not a pretentious cook, and I often think that less is more, in terms of quantity as well as complexity.

This blog will serve as a way for me to share my own recipes, as well as reviews of cookbooks and restaurants. But don’t be surprised if my politics sneak in every once in a while.
